Consultation has concluded
We are calling for local businesses and all community members to provide their feedback on the draft Commercial Outdoor Activities Policy.
Have your say on the policy and how we can support outdoor business activities in the Darwin municipality.
What are we doing?
- Combining all outdoor commercial activities held on City of Darwin land into one policy.
- Asking local businesses and community members to share their feedback before it's finalised.
- Drawing on this feedback to inform a set of guidelines to support the policy.
What will the draft policy address?
- outdoor dining
- liquor licensed premises – bar type settings (no substantial meals being served)
- retail activities
- parklets
- street food
- outdoor classes (such as fitness, walk-along tours and art)
- buskers and street performers
- tourism bus bays in Bennett Park
- other commercial uses such as trestle tables or clothes racks displaying goods for sale.
Why are we doing this?
- To simplify the process and encourage activation of our city’s outdoor spaces, whilst maintaining public access and amenity.
- Assist local businesses and owners better understand what’s required in the policy.
- As part of our 2030 Strategy, we are striving for Darwin’s beautiful outdoor spaces to be more activated and used for a variety of activities. A thriving economy encourages businesses to establish or expand in Darwin and encourages tourists to visit and contribute to the economy.
What do we want to know?
- your feedback on the policy and supporting draft guidelines
- if the policy makes it easier and more attractive for the commercial use of public land opportunities
- your suggestions on how the policy and/or guidelines could be improved to encourage greater use and activation to drive economic prosperity.
