Sports lighting at City of Darwin ovals and recreation facilities

City of Darwin has installed sports lights at several ovals and other recreation facilities throughout the Darwin municipality:

• Alawa Oval Three
• Bagot Oval and The Velodrome
• Gardens Oval One
• Malak Oval and Holzerland Park Basketball Court
• Nightcliff Oval

At present, the operating times vary at each venue.

We acknowledge the changing needs of facility users and we are seeking your feedback on a proposal to standardise sports oval and recreation facility lighting hours.

We believe standardising the operating hours of the lights will provide more access for training, competition and social recreation in the evenings.

Proposed operating hours:

• 4pm - 9pm Sunday – Thursday
• 4pm - 10pm Friday and Saturday

Consultation closes 3pm Friday 3 March 2023. 

All feedback received will be considered by Elected Members, with a decision expected in early April 2023. If endorsed, the standardised operating hours will be implemented at all applicable City of Darwin ovals and recreation venues.
