About Parap Pool

Parap Pool is the only World Aquatics compliant facility in Darwin, making it the designated pool for swimming competitions and events. It also caters for a range of programs and activities for all ages and abilities, including learn-to-swim, aqua aerobics, squad training and water polo.

Training room proposal

Swimming Northern Territory (SNT), supported by Swimming Australia and other stakeholders, is proposing to build a dry land training facility at Parap Pool.

The proposed facility would be constructed on the unused netball courts on the eastern side of the pool complex and used by existing local clubs as well as interstate and national swim squads.

The facility would be for swim club use only and not accessible to the public.

Facility features

The concept design is for a 35 m x 12 m, fully enclosed, wheelchair-accessible building that includes:

  • gym
  • recovery space
  • meeting room
  • storeroom

Anticipated benefits of the facility

The proposed facility aims to:

  • Support the development of local swimmers by providing access to strength and conditioning facilities and programs.
  • Provide dry land training space for interstate swim teams who already use Parap Pool for training camps.
  • Position Parap Pool as a world-class training destination for local, national and international swim teams.
  • Provide a training facility for the Australian Dolphins Olympic and Paralympic teams in the lead up to the Brisbane Olympics in 2032
  • Free up the existing stakeholder room and storage areas to be better used by the pool operator and other user groups during peak times.

If constructed, Swimming Australia would like to utilise Parap Pool as a training camp location for the Australian Dolphins Olympic and Paralympic teams in the lead up to the Brisbane Olympics in 2032, creating opportunities for community engagement and youth development, while also contributing to the local economy.
