Our 2019/20 Municipal Plan and Budget puts Darwin First and sets a new direction for our city and suburbs

Council's new Strategic Plan Darwin 2030 City for People, City of Colour has provided the vision for this year's Municipal Plan and Budget. The 2019/20 Draft Municipal Plan has expenditure across key areas to create a city that is vibrant, creative, innovative, connected, healthy and environmentally responsible.

We are investing back into our city and suburbs with an unprecedented investment in Darwin in 2019/20 with $53M capital expenditure. This is almost double the five year average of $28M and represents a massive investment in our local economy.

Highlights:

  • General rate increase of 3% which is an average increase of $53 a year or $1 per week
  • The rate increase is in line with Council's Long Term Financial Plan to remain financially stable
  • $53M Capital Works Program

Sustainable Infrastructure

  • $4.7M Streetscape beautification projects across Darwin
  • $2.5M Lakeside Drive Upgrade Works Stage 2
  • $5M Garramilla Boulevard
  • $230K Public Toilet Bicentennial Park Play Space
  • $150K Bagot Oval Carpark Upgrade

Safe, Liveable and Healthy

  • $3.3M Lighting of suburban sports ovals

Cool, Clean and Green

  • $1.1M to plant 4000 trees to ‘green’ Darwin
  • $22.45M Upgrades to Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility

Smart and Prosperous

  • $1.8M Darwin-wide smart LED lighting
  • $1.2M Information Technology Upgrades

Vibrant and Creative

  • $400k Darwin City Deal Public Art
  • $1.47M Community Support (Grants, Sponsorships and Operating Subsidies)
