DRAFT Update for Engage page: Creative Strategy 2024 – 2030

Thanks for having your say, Darwin.

On behalf of Matrix on Board and City of Darwin, thank you for your contribution during the consultation phase of the City of Darwin’s Creative Strategy 2024 - 2030.

The consultation process across Darwin was extensive and included:

  • 174 detailed responses via the Engage public survey from artists, audiences, people in arts organisations, the public and from businesses across the municipality
  • 11 focus groups involving 133 people
  • 17 City of Darwin staff
  • 16 individual interviews with artists, arts organisations, arts businesses, national peak bodies, and funding agencies
  • City of Darwin Elected Members.

Your ideas, feedback and valuable input have contributed to the building of the draft strategy which we hope will translate into stronger creative communities, sector connections and opportunities across the municipality.

The Creative Strategy 2024 - 2030 document is now in its final drafting stages.

The consultation and research undertaken have led to identifying priority areas around space, celebration of Larrakia and elevating the creative work that can only be made here.

The final draft will be presented to Elected Members for review and Council approval by the end of the year. Once this process has taken place, the Creative Strategy will be confirmed and made public, with implementation beginning in 2024.

Thank you again.

City of Darwin is developing a Creative Strategy for all who live, work, study in and visit the municipality. The Creative Strategy will increase opportunities to make, engage in and enjoy creative work and will span the next seven years.

The strategy also aims to improve the ways in which creatives engage with City of Darwin and will increase the visibility and viability of this sector.

City of Darwin currently provides a range of creative and public arts focussed initiatives, programs, and sponsorships. You can learn more about the various avenues of support in the frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Why now?

Our Arts Plan 2015 – 2020 has expired and we have an opportunity to take a fresh strategic look at the local creative sector through the lens of our 10 year Strategic Plan Darwin 2030: City for People, City of Colour.

We believe a Creative Strategy will assist us in continuing to elevate, leverage resources, and remain responsive to our city’s needs. The newly released National Cultural Policy will provide a national perspective for this work.

We want to hear from you!

City of Darwin is seeking your input and ideas on our current arts programs and projects, as well as your priorities for future resource allocation. We want to know what is important to our community.

You can provide feedback by:

  1. Completing the short 2-5 minute survey
  2. Sharing your ideas on the ideas tab
  3. Attending one of the open public consultation sessions (registration required).
    • Session 1: Wednesday 22 March 6:00 – 7:00pm, Meeting Room, Casuarina Library
    • Session 2: Saturday 25 March, 3:00 – 4:00pm, Boab Room, Nightcliff Community Centre

Community consultation closes 3pm Friday 14 April 2023.
