Consultation has concluded

As our city grows and changes so does our need for new and improved public spaces.

City of Darwin has committed $30 million to redevelop the existing Civic Centre to create a state-of-the-art facility that will service our growing community for the next 30 to 50 years.

The Civic Centre redevelopment will turn the old, dated complex into a new and exciting hub for the community to come together to work, play, celebrate, learn, meet, honour and remember.

The new Civic Centre will remain in Civic Park – a strategic location that connects the CBD, Darwin Waterfront and Parliament House.

The Tree of Knowledge in the front courtyard of the existing Civic Centre will be protected and become a feature of the new civic and community space.

This significant project will be central to City of Darwin’s approach to economic recovery, jobs and CBD enhancement, providing new offices, modern Council Chambers and significant community spaces.

The new Civic Centre will be more than just an office building, it will be the new heart of the community in the Darwin CBD. We want to create community spaces for all to enjoy.

Ideas include public spaces for exhibitions and events, a ceremonial Town Hall that could be used for weddings and official functions, and the City Library, for the community to use and enjoy. For more information read our fact sheet and FAQs.

We want to hear your ideas. City of Darwin is consulting the community on what they would like to see in the new Civic Centre and would like to hear from local residents and community groups, businesses and key stakeholders of the area.

Provide your feedback by answering our short survey below or by visiting the Tree of Big Ideas at your local library and pool. Or go to the online Tree of Big Ideas below and add your idea for the Civic Centre.
