Consultation has concluded
Help turn spaces into places!
Have your say on the Chapel Lane redevelopment.
We want to create a laneway that encourages movement through the space, enhances pedestrian experience, and improves economic outcomes for local business through activation of the space.
The redevelopment will improve access to West Lane arcade, the Galleria and city business traders.
The redevelopment will include:
creation of pedestrian plaza by removing nine on-street carparks in Mitchell Street
cooling the area and mitigating the urban heat island effect through planting more shade trees and installing permeable shade canopies
replacing hard surfaces with soft landscape and providing openness that supports public safety and security by allowing passive and active (CCTV) surveillance
adding pedestrian lighting to enhance amenity and activation, including new illuminated gateway signage to Chapel Lane which doubles as wayfinding
smart city infrastructure to provide free Wi-Fi, movement and environmental sensors, which will provide data for decision making and for measuring outcomes
public art highlighting the character of the laneway, if possible within budget.
This project is funded by the Northern Territory Government as part of the Darwin City Deal. It aligns with the Darwin City Deal ‘Laneways and Small Streets Action Plan'.
