City of Darwin would like your help in designing better By-laws.

By-laws allow City of Darwin to regulate activity, provide direction, impose charges and issue permits and infringements. They are part of our daily lives and help protect the city and our community.

By-laws govern a number of areas under Council control, including:

  • waste management and recycling, outdoor advertising
  • pet registration, menacing or dangerous dogs, cat containment and domestic livestock
  • public places such as libraries, swimming pools, recreation areas and markets.

Community consultation on the changes to City of Darwin’s By-laws is open from 31 March to 30 April 2021.

You can review the proposed new By-laws here and read our fact sheet and information paper about the By-laws.
