Verge with neat green grass and shrubs

Verges are an important part of the look and feel of Darwin’s streetscape. Well maintained verges enhance our city by providing shade, visual appeal, safe access and a habitat for birds and other wildlife.

Verges provide:

• Safe access to pedestrians through clear corridors or footpaths

• Suitable vehicle access through driveways

• Shading and amenity through tree planting and maintenance

• Accessible service corridors for utilities

Verges Policy and Guidelines

The Verges Policy and Guidelines apply to verges on Council owned road reserve and provide information for the beautification and maintenance of your verge. They have recently been updated and we invited you to share your views. The Fact Sheet provides an overview of the Policy and Guidelines.
