PROJECT UPDATE

Thanks for having your say Darwin. The engagement report, including public comments, is available on the City of Darwin website, and we've also uploaded the report to this page for easier access.

City of Darwin coordinated a stakeholder and community engagement process from 16 October to 12 November 2023. The engagement process captured a diverse range of views from about 700 people about their needs and aspirations for the Bundilla Beach area across the short, medium and long term, and gathered feedback on the proposed short-term works.

A consistent theme in the feedback from stakeholders and the community was that people were keen to see more recreation opportunities at Bundilla Beach Reserve. The majority of respondents welcomed the proposed revitalisation of Bundilla Beach Reserve and the short-term initiatives to make the reserve safer, cleaner and greener.

Since completing the engagement process with stakeholders and the community and reviewing the feedback received, we’ve developed a draft concept design for the masterplan as well as the detailed designs for the short-term works. People can have their say on the draft Bundilla Beach master plan until Wednesday 1 May 2024 11:59PM. Once the master plan has been finalised, it will be shared publicly.

Have your say on the development of a masterplan for Bundilla Beach.

A masterplan is being created to activate and transform the amenity of the Bundilla Beach area and create more opportunities for recreation and leisure.

We’re seeking input from the community as we design a staged and prioritised masterplan that revitalises Bundilla Beach across the short, medium and longer term.

We want to hear from you about your aspirations, needs and preferences for the Bundilla Beach area. Preserving Bundilla Beach’s environmental, cultural and social value is a critical goal for this masterplan.

For the masterplan’s first stage, the Northern Territory Government has committed $3 million and City of Darwin has contributed $0.5 million for a total of $3.5 million to reinvigorate the area.

Construction of the first stage of the masterplan is scheduled for delivery in 2024, and we’re seeking your feedback on what works we should deliver next year to enhance Bundilla’s natural beauty while delivering more recreation opportunities and a higher level of amenity.

The masterplan’s first stage works that are intended to improve usage and amenity include:

  • additional public lighting
  • 3 x 3 basketball court
  • greenspace irrigation
  • additional BBQ tables and shelters
  • street food enabling infrastructure
  • additional toilets
  • improvements to pathways
  • improvements to parking
  • a dog park
  • a RV dump point.

Phases two and three of the masterplan will reflect the medium and long-term uses of the Bundilla Beach area, which is why we want to hear about your needs, aspirations and priorities for the space for years to come.

The detailed design for the first stage, as well as the concepts for the second and third stages of the masterplan, will be shared in early 2024.

Community consultation closes 11:59 pm Sunday 12 November 2023.

Go to our survey below to have your say or find out more about when we’ll be out and about in the community seeking your feedback.
