Bagot Oval Lights

Football Federation NT (FFNT) presented a proposal to Council to light Bagot Oval. The proposal includes the installation of lights to achieve a maximum brightness of 200 lux in the centre of the fields.

Consultation

A consultation was delivered from the 29 January to the 9 March 2018. The consultation report was considered by Council on the 24 April and the following Decision was endorsed:

  • THAT based on the outcomes of the community consultation, Council provide in-principle support for the lighting of Nightcliff and Bagot Ovals to a maximum lumen capacity of 200LUX to enable the development of detailed design, documentation and cost estimates inclusive of whole of life costs.
  • THAT the concerns of the community as identified in the Consultation Outcomes Report be taken into consideration in the planning and design of lighting for Nightcliff and Bagot Ovals.
  • THAT a further report be presented to Council for project endorsement for Nightcliff and Bagot Oval lights based on the finalised design and cost.

Project Status December 2018

A report was presented to Council on the 27 November 2018 with the detailed design of the lighting. Council agreed to proceed with the lighting as per the detailed design.

The report also contained responses to community concerns raised through the consultation. Key concerns included the car parking and traffic management. Council officers have worked with local residents to develop a concept design for the upgrade of the car park. Council has allocated funds for the upgrade in the 2019/2020 budget.

Next Steps

Development permits have been granted for the sports lighting at Gardens Oval, Bagot Oval and Nightcliff Oval. The project has been released for public tender and closes on the 23 August. City of Darwin’s aim is to have the three lighting projects completed by early 2020.
