2023 Citizen of the Year Awards

KNOW SOMEONE who is passionate about the Darwin community? This is the time to recognise those special people who put their heart and soul into supporting and improving our community.

The Australia Day Citizen Awards reward and recognise individuals and groups that;

  • have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year,
  • and/or have provided an outstanding service over a number of years, to a local community to improve the lives of others,
  • who are role models, quiet achievers or leaders in our community.

The outstanding contribution could be in areas such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, the arts, the environment and any other area that contributes to the well-being of a community.

The awards are City of Darwin's highest recognition of contribution to our city. The categories are;

Citizen of the Year

  • Significant contribution to the community
  • An inspirational role model for the Australian community
  • The scope of impact the individual’s contribution has in the local government area

  • Must be an Australian Citizen
Young Citizen of the Year
  • Must be an Australian Citizen
  • Must be under 30 years of age on 26 January 2023
Community Activity of the Year
  • The quality of the activity
  • The scope of impact the activity has in the local government area
  • The activities contribution to the community

  • Community activity must have been delivered during the past year
  • Includes online events

The best nominations are those that tell a story and capture the characteristics of an extraordinary Australian making a difference. Check out the Nomination Tips for more information on how to write a good nomination.

Nominate someone for an Award and you could win a $50 voucher! The Award finalists and winners are recognised at the Australia Day ceremony with individual winners receiving a brand new iPad and the Community Activity winner receiving $500 towards their program.

The application process has been simplified to make it easier than ever to nominate, don't wait do it now!
